Jan Svankmajer’s - Alice

This film is quite dark but full of creativity. For example, in one of the scenes, there was a pretty looking creepy creature leading the way for Alice. Also, the white rabbit is a stuffed real rabbit, who stores his watch in the hole on his chest. Occasionally, the chest of the rabbit would split open and some rice looking dust would leak out of his chest. I have to say some of the graphics in this film are quite terrifying and defiantly not suitable for younger children.

Disregarding all the terrifying scenes, I quite enjoyed this version of Svankmajer’s Alice. There are some really creative ideas being used in the film. For example, when Alice shrinks, she is transformed to a doll which looks fairly similar to her regular self. I thought Svankmajer has transformed the story of Alice in Wonderland completely from its original form. This version of Alice has reflected some of Svankmajer’s ‘out of the box’ thinking and the dark side of the film has made the film more entertaining.
