MEDIA MANIPULATE.4 :: the meaning

ITHE MEANING OF CONTROL: PUPPET //
After checking the definition of the word “puppet”, I am pretty sure “puppet” is the perfect word to explain how the media controls one’s mind. The definition: a model of a person or an animal that can be made to move. Therefore, a puppet is an object manipulated by a puppeteer and we also can say a person or group whose actions are controlled by another.

There are many different varieties of puppets all controlled by puppeteer, All of them are made of a wide range of materials, such as finger puppet, shadow puppet, hand shadow puppet, After many different experiments, I think string puppet would be the one fit my idea.

Moreover, the finding of a famous illustration design team, Ingela Och Vi, has encouraged me to stick to my decision to use the idea of a puppet to interpret the meaning of control. Although, their work does not relate to the meaning of control at all, the style of their work helps illustrate what I am looking for.

Made by Elisabeth Månsson & Peter Turkalj

The main designers are Elisabeth Månsson (illustrator and graphic designer) and Peter Turkalj (photographer) who conceived the idea of creating three-dimensional illustrations by combining illustration and photography. Most of their ideas were taken from movies, music and daily life. The characters in their work were cut out in paper and dressed with textiles to increase the 3D visuals. The characters are placed in the scene as actors and to keep them in place. The most special style in their design is that they using fishing line for all the characters. For me, it is illustration clearly the idea of how all the characters in the scene are controlled by the designer who is the master in this scene.
